Omerto - The First Tomato Wine
A unique wine in the world
Omerto is an artisanal wine made from tomatoes, a fruit rarely associated with viticulture. This innovative product was born from a know-how initiated by Pascal Miche's great-grandfather and carefully passed down over four generations, combining heritage and innovation.
Origin and Family History
The history of Omerto began in Belgium in 1938. That year, Omer Miche, great-grandfather of the current producer Pascal Miche, transformed a bountiful harvest of tomatoes into wine. Kept secretly for decades, the recipe was passed down from Omer to Pascal, preserving a unique know-how.
A Quebec production
Pascal Miche, who has lived in Baie-Saint-Paul since 2008, continues this family adventure. On a five-hectare estate, he makes a tomato wine using an artisanal method. After a decade of research and refinement, the recipe is finally ready for commercialization.
From small workshops to international exports
In its early days, Omerto's production consisted of only 20 to 30 bottles per year. Today, it exceeds 50,000 bottles per year, while maintaining the quality standards for which the product is renowned.
A Terroir Adapted to Tomatoes
The tomatoes used are carefully selected for their aromas and their adaptation to the climate of Baie-Saint-Paul. This blend of varieties gives Omerto a distinctive taste that is totally different from any other wine.
Recognition and Distribution
Omerto is the first tomato wine to be marketed globally. It has been available at the SAQ since August 2016, and can also be ordered online with home delivery.
